5 Steps to consider when printing postcards

We've put together 5 of the most common areas you should consider prior to printing postcards.

Size

The first step should be gathering all the information you will be putting on your postcards before laying out the design in order to adequetly choose the size of your postcard for printing. The most common size for postcards is 4x6 because they offer a great value in terms of pricing and help reduce the cost of postage if being mailed.

The downside to having a standard 4x6 postcard is that it can be lost in the mix of other printed materials once it gets to where it's going. Some of our customers opt for a larger size postcard such as a 5x7 or 6x9 in order to stand out from the crowd, so to speak.

Paper

Choosing the right paper stock can make all the difference in the world. Many printers opt to use 12 point cardstock which can feel somewhat flimsy. At PrintMVP we carry a thicker 14pt cardstock as well as our ultra-thick 16pt cardstock, which is about 75% as thick as a credit card. Printing postcards on 16pt cardstock offers a product that feels substantial and has some weight to it.

Coating

The progressive step in ordering postcards would be to choose your paper coating. We offer two types of coatings, a matte and glossy UV. Postcards printed with a matte finish have a slight shine to them and can still be written on with a ballpoint pen or marker. Our high gloss UV coating offers added protection and durability to the cards as well as a beautiful shine, but does not allow for you to write on it.

Color

It's a proven fact that consumers react more favorably to color printed pieces versus black and white. All of our postcards at PrintMVP are full color on both sides, allowing you to fully maximize the potential of your printed postcards and grasp the attention of your target audience.

Environment

We all need to do our part in helping preserve the environment. At PrintMVP we strive to use the most environmentally friendly methods for printing including utilizing paper from responsible paper sources, soy-based inks and low volatile coatings.
